“What an exquisite place to stay. Steeped in history, sumptuously renovated, beautifully located, graciously hosted and wonderful in every other way. Couldn’t speak more highly of this property and can’t wait to return. Abiding memories around the fire pit of shooting stars, planets in alignment and a beguiling harvest moon.”

“Beautifully appointed home with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Bedrooms are stunning. Only wish the weather was better to enjoy the gardens and outdoor fire pit. We had 4 couples and it worked so well for our group celebrating a few milestone birthdays. Thanks MJ… we can’t wait to come back.”

-Kirsty, Airbnb

“Attention to detail. The fire was stoked ready to light with plenty of firewood available Fresh flowers placed around the home. We felt such warmth as soon as we stepped in the door and checking in was easy. MJ was fabulous to communicate with and we really appreciated all the special touches found in and around the home. We even managed to have the outside fire going that’s to the weather. Great central location to plenty of wineries and the local town made it easy and quick to get to and from but we felt like we were in the country listening to birds/farm animals and a lovely eeyaw from a local donkey! Which made us all stop in our tracks and laugh. It also inspired us to go for a beautiful walk which was very picturesque”.

-Josette, Airbnb

“Oh wow! What a fabulous house. We loved everything about our stay at 1858! From the gorgeous comfy couches, to the lovely big table to fit everyone & a beautiful cosy fire as well as split systems in every room. To top it off so many sweet and touching added extras! Perfect for 4 couples or a couple of families. Highly recommend.”

- Tracy, Airbnb

“We had a wonderful stay. House was immaculate, designed beautifully. Everything thought of. Central to all wineries. We are completely jealous of the home and gardens and feel it should be should be featured in Country Style magazine. Hosts were relaxed and allowed us to have a later checkout which made our stay. Highly recommend.”

- Zoe, Airbnb

“What an amazing place to stay for a relaxing week away with a slice of luxurious history. Go for a drive to the wineries or have a fire overlooking the beautiful gardens MJ was great to deal with and cares about her guests! Make sure you stay for a long time”!

“My girlfriends from high school (from 20+) years ago find it difficult to find time to reconnect due to distance apart and families etc. 1858 was a perfect spot for us to catch up and reminisce without being interrupted by outside life. Perfect.”

-Nicole, Airbnb

MJ place was perfect for a group stay in Barossa Valley! First up, the place is stunningly beautiful! The place was filled with cosy areas for the group to hang out, from the charming bench table to watch the sunset at, to the outdoor fire place to watch the stars and the cosy dining/living room to eat dinner and play board games at. The place was also well stocked with pantry staples, and MJ was kind enough to gift us cheeses and wine to go with our meals, which we couldn’t have prepared without the kitchen and all it’s pristine amenities. The highlight would definitely be MJ’s hospitality, she was always on hand to help out with any of our questions, and even supplied us with a baby thermometer and syringe when one of our infant was sick. Overall a great stay and one not to miss out on if you are hoping for a great holiday and lovely memories!

-Pearlyl, Airbnb

We had the most wonderful stay at MJ’s place. Everything was perfect. Her house is so gorgeous and cosy, with so much attention to detail from beautiful flowers in the bedroom, to fresh coffee and herbs in the kitchen and magazines to browse while we curled up in front of the fire. We also enjoyed eating outside watching the sunset over the vines, toasting marshmallows over the fire pit, and soaking in the claw foot bath. It was a great location for exploring local wineries while feeling entirely secluded and peaceful. We did not want to leave and are planning to come back next year! Thank you so much MJ

‘1858 is one of the most beautiful places we've stayed. We arrived in miserable weather but it was quickly forgotten the moment we stepped inside. The home was warm & inviting with fresh cut flowers and welcome provisions from Melissa-Jane. The home accommodates large groups extremely well with plenty of comfortable couch space beside the fire & a long dining table for communal eating. While the weather kept us indoors, the outdoor fire pit & table for meals looks like the perfect spot to wind down in milder weather - we will just have to come back again’ !

- Gemma, Airbnb

‘We had an absolutely fabulous time away on our friends trip and the house made it even more special and relaxing than we thought possible . Everyone had their own space and the dreamy gardens shaded with gorgeous gums for areas to sit and relax were stunning . The sunset views were the icing on the cake every evening . The decor, layout, gardens and art made it feel like there was always something to ponder and enjoy throughout the house so if it rained it would have been just as lovely as well. But the weather was perfect so we got to enjoy the gardens every day. The little personal touches from Melissa-Jane throughout the home were lovely and she was always happy to answer questions and help when needed and gave us some local visiting ideas. Some of the comments from our group were ‘Felt like home away from home’ and ‘felt like a fairy tale ‘ . We would definitely go again and also planning to take our own families down the track as it’s a perfect place for families too’.

- Eilis, Airbnb

‘A beautiful, well stocked homestead which suited us perfectly for our weekend group get away. The home provided everything for an inspired stay - kitchen exceptionally stocked, many places to sit, read or chat both outside and in, and tranquil private surrounds. We especially loved the yard games and sitting by the fire at night. Thank you again for hosting us!

We had a wonderful long weekend at 1858 with my elderly parents for Dad's 80th birthday. The accomodation was better than we imagined, and Melissa-Jane did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable - allowing early check-in and even offering to pick something up from the shops for us! The home is well appointed and spacious - plenty big enough for our group of 6 adults. Everything we needed was there, bathrooms and kitchen was spotless. Big TV and Bose speaker were a welcome addition, as was the complimentary wine and platter on arrival. I highly recommend this place, which is just 5mins drive from Angaston and would definitely book again!

-Angus, Airbnb

Me and my group of friends had the most amazing stay at Melissa-Jane's place! The property was not only beautiful but also absolutely pristine – it felt like a home away from home. Our entire experience was nothing short of pleasant, and I can't recommend this place enough. Thank you, Melissa, for making our stay so special!

‘A stunning home in a beautiful location with an incredible host -should be advertised as an experience’ rather than an accommodation - just being immersed in the atmosphere of property surpassed our expectations. A beautiful space - absolutely nothing more we could have needed or wanted in order to ensure our stay was as relaxed or as vibrant as we wished each day to be. Thanks for everything MJ!

We had a very enjoyable weekend stay with friends. Comfortably accommodated us all, with in door and outdoor options for meals etc. It’s an ideal location in the Barossa, close to many attractions but still secluded for privacy, peace and quiet. Well appointed and charming.

We spent seven blissful, relaxing days at MJ’s retreat which was nothing short of perfection!! I cannot recommend this property highly enough. It is heaven amongst the vineyards and exactly what we needed to recharge our batteries. MJ had thought of everything to make our stay memorable (thoughtful welcome treats, flowers throughout the house, blankets for the fireplace, restocking the firewood, picnic blankets, superb local recommendations, the list goes on). Thank you for sharing your gorgeous house with us MJ - we truly appreciate it 🥰

The accomadation was just beautiful. It suited our group of 8 perfectly. Everything we needed was there. Melissa the host, couldn't have been more helpful. Researching Wineries and bakeries on request. She was quick to answer any questions and gave us a beautiful perfect outlay of what was ahead. The beautiful wine, cheese and local goodies was much appreciated. Melissa ensured that we remained very cosy on cold nights. She stocked the timber and had air conditioning, already heating so we arrived into a cozy environment.. We were there to celebrate my husbands 60th birthday and we loved every second of our stay.. Thank you MJ, for our wonderful stay ❤️

This was the most beautiful Airbnb we have stayed in. It was very well appointed with everything you need, every detail had been considered. Plenty of space for six people, lovely indoor and outdoor spaces including a fit pit that was all set up for us. The decor was beautiful and it felt very cozy. MJ was most helpful and was available to answer questions at any time. I would highly recommend to anyone.

MJ was an outstanding host, helping us with local recommendations and providing some food and wine for our arrival.

If you’re looking for a relaxing, farmhouse stay in the Barossa look no further! The house itself is stunning with 4 spacious bedrooms and immaculately decorated. The kitchen was fully stocked and we even had a cheese board and wine on arrival. There is a fire pit in the yard that added to the ambiance of the surroundings. The sunrises and sunsets were an added bonus :) The icing on the cake was Melissa-Jane’s help with local recommendations. We booked two dinners and breakfast based on that and every meal we had was amazing. 10/10, would definitely stay here again!

The most beautiful heritage farmhouse in gorgeous surroundings. Close enough to town and the best of the Barossa to visit but quiet and peaceful.
Luxury finishes with everything we needed and more, but still full of heritage charm.

We had a wonderful experience at Melissa Jane’s place. A beautiful farmhouse with lots of attention to detail; very comfortable and welcoming. There were unique, quality furnishings with historical references in every room. The kitchen had excellent appliances and had everything needed to cook beautiful meals.
The grounds surrounding the farmhouse were beautifully kept and we enjoyed sitting outside in the comfortable outdoor settings to have our lunch in the beautiful garden. In the evening, the fire pit was a hit with everyone.
A real sense of history could be felt both inside and outside the farmhouse.

A beautiful lovingly restored home with very comfortable quality furniture, fixtures and fittings. Great lounge with a large cozy wood burning stove. Well appointed kitchen with everything you could need and Mellisa-Jane provided a generous selection of small goods, cheese and wine as well as the essentials for our stay. The outdoor area is great too - especially the fire pit with plenty of firewood supplied. We highly recommend this lovely house and would definatley go back. We had a wonderful 3 night stay at Melissa-Jane's place in Moculta.
1858 Barossa Accommodation is a beautiful house and peaceful property, surrounded by vineyards and only a short 10min drive to Angaston and plenty of Barossa wineries.
The house is beautifully decorated and was very comfortable for our group of 8.
The beds were all super comfortable and dressed with luxurious linen and towels. The kitchen is very well equipped, and we cooked dinner for 8 every night.
There was plenty of firewood to keep the fireplace going in the large lounge. We also loved warming up around the firepit outside with a glass of Barossa Red during the clear evenings.
Melissa even stocked the fridge for us with a lovely cheese and nibbles hamper and a couple of special wines and chocolate, to celebrate my husband's 50th.
Melissa had some great local recommendations and was always responsive and clear with instructions.
This is a wonderful property for a special gathering and we highly recommend it!

-Marina, Airbnb

Melissa Jane has paid enormous attention to detail and has thought of everything. Touches like toothbrush packs to fresh flowers, to cosy blankets. There are little special touches everywhere and the home is beautifully styled. Having heaps of wood for the roaring “slow” combustion fire (which was anything but slow) was appreciated. And the outdoor fire pit under the stars was magical. Brian was also super helpful and friendly. It was a beautiful quintessential Australian experience in the best wine region in Australia. The Barossa, with its German heritage, ironstone buildings, countless cellar door experiences and world class restaurants, is simply beautiful. The Saturday Farmers Market showcases the important role top quality, home grown and home made food has in the valley. We come back to the Barossa every year and still haven’t made a dent in visiting the plethora of wineries.

-Sandra, Airbnb

We were repeat guests this time after a beautiful stay last year. The house is absolutely beautiful, well equipped and the beds are so comfortable. It’s very well located for the Barossa and is set it such stunning and peaceful surroundings. Communication was absolutely excellent. It’s becoming our go-to place to stay in this region.

-Naomi, Airbnb 100th review

We had a wonderful stay at Barossa 1858. It is a spotless, beautifully maintained house in a lovely country setting, complete with a few resident kangaroos. The property offers the best of both worlds – peaceful rural surrounds yet only 10 minutes to Angaston and perfectly located for exploring many of the region’s wineries.
MJ is a fantastic host – responsive, thoughtful, and very helpful. The house is full of considerate touches, providing the little things you might need, along with a generous welcome platter of local cheeses, products, and wines.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and would highly recommend Barossa 1858 to anyone visiting the region.

A beautiful home in a picturesque setting! The house had everything we could hope for and more. Melissa went over and above to make sure our stay was perfect. We hope to come back.

-Marcella, Airbnb

We loved the house and surroundings. Everything was perfect.

-Galina, Airbnb

I was anxious about this trip because my parents from Brazil didn't know the Barossa region, and I was very excited.
At the end, they didn't even want to leave the house as they absolutely love it. Its peaceful, private, very well equiped, beautiful and comfy.
Melissa was great to deal with since the booking where we had some last minute change and she was flexible.
During the stay she answer all questions and gave us some tips on wineries to go, which we end up not going hahah.
If you're looking for a heritage place with history, it's very premium and comfortable, and you won't regret this stay.
