The Barossa Valley is a world-renowned wine region in South Australia, famous for Shiraz, historic vineyards, and gourmet food, located about 60 kms northeast of Adelaide. The Peramangk people are the traditional custodians of the hills and valleys and have managed the land for thousands of years before European arrival. From 1842 Prussian and Silesian immigrants arrived in the Barossa Valley to settle, escaping religious persecution. The Barossa Valley's rich history dates back thousands of years, evolving from Indigenous lands to a thriving European settlement famous for its unique German-Silesian heritage. Colonel William Light surveyed the area in 1837 and named it after the Spanish Battle of Barrosa.
